Study visit to Center Rog in Ljubljana

As part of the „STEMerica moves on“ project, the FabLab association visited Center Rog in Ljubljana, one of the most interesting creative and production hubs in the region.

Center Rog is the creative hub of the Slovenian capital, dedicated to the cultural and creative sector with an emphasis on production, design, applied arts and the development of new ideas. Across more than 8,500 m², users have access to modern, well-equipped production spaces, laboratories and areas intended for learning, experimenting, prototyping and making.

During the visit we had the opportunity to get to know in detail how Center Rog works, along with its programmes, infrastructure and day-to-day activities. Alongside a tour of the various laboratories and production spaces, we took part in presentations, workshops and STEM activities and saw at first hand how the Centre operates and how it connects its users, experts and the creative community.

We were particularly interested in the laboratories and production spaces that allow users to work with a range of technologies and materials - from the FabLab and 3D production, electronics and digital fabrication to woodworking and metalworking, textiles, ceramics, glass and other creative fields. In a single place, the Centre brings together modern technologies, practical knowledge, creativity and interdisciplinary cooperation.

Over the two days of the visit we met members of the Center Rog team who work every day in the different laboratories and programmes, talked with them about their experience and their way of working, and took part in activities that are run regularly at the Centre.

Our stay in Ljubljana was filled with learning, hands-on work, an exchange of ideas and new experiences. Taking part in the various activities gave us the chance not only to get to know the Centre's infrastructure, but also to experience how its spaces are used in everyday work, learning, making and collaboration.

The study visit was a valuable opportunity to see examples of good practice and new models for connecting STEM, design, creativity and hands-on work, and to gather new ideas that can contribute to the further development of the FabLab association's activities within the „STEMerica moves on“ project.

The „STEMerica moves on“ project (SF.2.4.06.04.0122) is run by the FabLab association under the grant call „Strengthening the capacity of civil society organisations to promote STEM“. The project is co-financed by the European Union through the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) and by the Office for Cooperation with NGOs of the Government of the Republic of Croatia.
