The FabLab association is running the „STEMerica moves on“ project, co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+), with the aim of popularising science, technology, engineering and mathematics among children, young people and the wider public. The project contributes to the development of STEM competences through free workshops, public events and other interactive activities carried out in different parts of Croatia.
Through the project, children and young people have the opportunity to learn in a practical and engaging way – by exploring, experimenting, solving challenges and using modern technologies. This approach encourages the development of logical thinking, creativity, cooperation and digital competences, and brings the STEM fields closer to everyday life.
Project activities
The project comprises a large number of activities aimed at different age groups. Every year, 40 public STEM events are organised across Croatia, along with 81 workshops in educational institutions, bringing STEM content closer to children and young people in their local communities.
At the public events, visitors can take part in interactive workshops such as „Cryptography“ and „A trace in the ink“, as well as other STEM activities that combine scientific inquiry, digital technologies and creative thinking. In primary schools, the „Cryptography“ workshop is held, through which pupils learn the basics of encryption, information security and logical reasoning.
Project implementation
The „STEMerica moves on“ project is also aimed at strengthening the capacity of civil society organisations to deliver high-quality STEM activities. The project includes professional development and mentoring in cooperation with the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Zagreb, as well as study visits and participation in professional conferences and fairs.
Alongside the FabLab association as the applicant, the project is implemented with the partners the STEAM SHOW association, Čavle Primary School, Dobriša Cesarić Primary School in Osijek, Prečko Primary School in Zagreb and Vladimir Nazor Primary School in Budinščina. This partner network makes it possible to carry out activities in different parts of Croatia and contributes to the wider availability of high-quality STEM content.
A project co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus
The „STEMerica moves on“ project runs from 12 March 2025 to 12 March 2028, and its total value is EUR 299,990.53. The European Social Fund Plus co-finances 85% of the project's value, while the remaining 15% is provided from the State Budget of the Republic of Croatia. The project code is SF.2.4.06.04.0122.
Support from the European Social Fund Plus has made it possible to carry out activities that give children and young people new opportunities to learn, explore and develop STEM competences, while further strengthening the capacity of civil society organisations to deliver high-quality educational programmes. In the period ahead, the FabLab association will continue to carry out the activities of the „STEMerica moves on“ project and, through cooperation with its partners, contribute to creating a more accessible and more inclusive STEM environment in Croatia.
